CRAEI (Residential Centre for Intensive Educational Action)

CRAEI El Pedrenyal

Location: The CRAEI El Pedrenyal is located in the rural village of Santa Maria Palautordera (Vallès Oriental) Barcelona. The minors living here benefit from the advantages offered by a rural environment, while having direct access to the resources offered by the village, including good road network.

Places: 18 places for young men.

Age group: 12 to 18 years of age.

The centre has access to an External Schooling Unit (UEE - Unitat d’Escolarització Externa), since part of the resident minors are still in school age and, because of their characteristics, can not attend to ordinary schools. This service is currently also developing a project involving an ecological vegetable garden and a henhouse as part of the classroom-workshop project. The young men aged 12 to 16 years can take part in this project to obtain a UEE variable credit. The young men aged 16 to 18 taking part in the classroom-workshop project prioritise the objectives of educating within a labour background, teaching different trades and preparing the young people for the world of labour.

Foundation: The CRAEI El Pedrenyal was created as a response to the need to provide a solution for a sector of the population under the responsibility of the Administration, which requires an intensive educational approach within a controlled environment and using internal resources. This centre is in collaboration with the Directorate General for Child and Adolescent Care, and is managed by the Educational Platform Foundation since September 2002 as a result of a collaboration agreement.

Personnel: Director, 2 pedagogical coordinators, 1 psychologist, 13 educators, 1 administrator, 2 classroom teachers, 1 workshop manager, 1 cook and 1 cleaner.
The educational team provides external technical supervision.
